Consistency: My Secret Spell for Keeping My Marketing Magical

Over the past 5 years, I’ve consistently shared content across multiple marketing channels.

  • 768 Instagram posts
  • Over 1,000 Instagram Stories
  • Over 1,000 email broadcasts
  • 145 podcast episodes

Not only have I maintained a high level of consistency in this time, but I’ve also maintained a high level of quality and creativity in my content. Content is my most powerful spell, and I ain’t afraid to wield my wand.

Over the years, people have always been amazed by both my consistency and my creativity when it comes to my content.

So, in this episode of the How I Do Content Podcast, I want to share my secrets to keeping my marketing consistent – even when I don’t feel like it. Because yes, that happens – even to content wizards like me!

Why is consistency important for your business, your brand and your marketing?

I want you to think about ALL of the marketing, messaging and content you’re exposed to on a daily basis.

A fuckload, right?

So how can you expect to not only stand out, but to actually be seen by your ideal clients or customers, if you’re only putting yourself in front of them inconsistently at best? And that’s before you factor in the things you can’t control like algorithms, world events, life…

I know it would be nice if your ideal clients and customers just stumbled across your business, and were so impressed they bought from you immediately and then told all their friends who did the same… BUT, let me ask you this, wizard: if they DID stumble across your business by magic, and you’re not sharing consistent content across your marketing channels – how can you expect them to confidently hand over their hard-earned cash?

Would YOU buy from a business that you know absolutely nothing about if you couldn’t find any recent and relevant information about their offers?

I’m going to give you the hard truth about being in business right now – there’s really no excuse for not being consistent in your marketing and your content. You simply don’t have that luxury anymore.

If you want people to buy from you, you need to give them a reason to…

Especially in a market where consumers are more discerning with how they spend their money than ever before.

Consistency in your marketing helps you to:

  • Build awareness about your business and your offers in your community
  • Build the trust required for your ideal client to hand over their money
  • Create a community of raving fans who show up for you and buy from you on repeat

I get it – not everyone is naturally consistent. BUT consistency is a habit and something that can be built up.

You have to find YOUR version of consistency

I also understand that sometimes you just don’t feel like creating and sharing content – because me too! – BUT if you want to create the business I KNOW you desire, and to FINALLY be fully seen in your magic – you can’t let your feelings run the show.

This is why I want to share my secrets to maintaining consistency and creativity in my marketing even when I don’t feel like it!

#1 I have a marketing strategy

My strategy is the bitch running the show around here.

I love having a plan, a purpose, a direction, a reason for doing anything in my business.

Having a strategy has ALWAYS given me a clear direction for my content, and allows me to show up consistently, create with confidence, and grow my business.

It also stops me from falling too far into the ‘comparison trap’ or the ‘trending trap’ – you’ll never find me doing something in my business because someone else is doing it or it’s trending.

My strategy is my guide.

On the days when I’m not really feeling it – I come back to my strategy. It grounds me back into what I’m doing, why I’m doing it, and WHO I’m doing it for.

#2 I create content for my community and my ideal client

At the end of the day, my business is here to serve and support my community and my ideal clients.

Full stop.

Period.

They’re the people who buy from me and who go on to tell every Harry, Ron & Hermione about me – so of course I want to show up and serve them consistently.

One of the benefits of consistent marketing is you form a deep connection with your community, and this makes creating content easier. You’re never in doubt about what you should post or what your ideal client needs to hear from you – YOU ALREADY KNOW.

You don’t second guess yourself.

You create from a place of already knowing.

And it’s this certainty and confidence that radiates through your content, which, unsurprisingly, results in paying clients.

Knowing how to create content that magnetises Beyonce-level clients on repeat is unmatched.

The more consistent you are with your marketing, the more data you get about your ideal client and what they like, what they desire and how they buy… data that, in turn, makes marketing and creating content a fuckload easier.

Yep – consistency makes content creation easier. Who would’ve thought?!

#3 I repurpose my marketing across multiple marketing channels

Considering I’ve recorded MULTIPLE podcast episodes on repurposing content recently – all I’m going to say here is…

Repurposing your content is the ultimate hack to maintaining consistency in your marketing.

If you’re not repurposing your content – you’re doing it wrong.

#4 I create processes for my marketing activities

Step-by-step, repeatable processes that make it easier for myself (and my team) to get my marketing out into the world each and every week.

In Episode 143, I shared my weekly podcast process with you – a process that has supported me to put out 145 episodes since I first launched the podcast back in May 2021.

A process that has supported me to create 145 podcast episodes PLUS thousands of additional pieces of content from each.

Creating marketing processes is one of the easiest ways to maintain consistency and save time on your marketing…

but so many business owners have such resistance to doing this because they tend to overcomplicate it.

It all starts with breaking down your marketing activities into the steps of your process so you can identify opportunities to eliminate time-wasting activities and automate or outsource parts of the process.

Consistency is hard when you’re starting every week from zero with a completely blank slate and trying to make it up as you go or when you feel like it.

Consistency isn’t hard when you have processes in place.

#5 Make marketing fun again!

I don’t know about you, Wizard, but when I’m having fun with my marketing it makes it easier to create consistently.

There’s no secret the reason I’ve made Ned & Harry Potter such a big part of my brand is because I love them both so much, and so it feels fun to incorporate them into my marketing.

When you enjoy something, naturally, you want to do it more – the same applies to your marketing.

I’ve never understood why so many business owners CHOOSE not to have more fun with their marketing. It’s like you’re afraid you might actually enjoy it!

Consistency is easy when you bring your creativity and personality to the table and sprinkle your magic throughout everything you create.

And if you’re having fun in your marketing – your ideal client or customer is going to feel it and want a part of it too!

#6 Don’t mistake consistency for frequency

It should go without saying, but I’m going to say it anyway – because so many people make this mistake!

This is NOT about sharing MORE content.

This is also NOT about pushing yourself past your capacity.

But if you desire to

  • Grow your business
  • Take your business to the next level
  • 10 x your business

…you require consistency in your marketing.

Let’s be real ok?!

You can’t expect to become the Taylor Swift of your industry if you’re always dipping in and out of your marketing when you’re not feeling it or things aren’t going your way.

I also want you to know…

If you’re going through it right now and you can’t maintain your consistency – it’s ok.

You’re human, not a machine. Create a new version of consistency that works with your capacity right now. It will ebb and flow depending on the season you’re in in your life and business. And that’s the beauty of running your own business, you get to decide what consistency in your marketing looks like for you.

So there you have it. My secret to marketing myself consistently over the past 5 years (even when I don’t feel like it) isn’t really a secret at all – I’m simply setting myself up for success and making it easier to maintain my marketing consistency.
