Last year I witnessed a lot of burnt out biz owners limping to the end of the year.
They were done.
Exhausted from…
The constant churn of creating content because you don’t want your community to forget about you if you stop showing up.
But also feeling like what’s the point because nothing you share is actually working and converting into leads and sales like it used to.
Not to mention wondering why everyone you attract into your world either isn’t ready to invest or worse they completely ghost you and then go sign up to work with someone else who charges 5x more than you.
And as you ease back into work and start to build momentum again – you really want to avoid feeling this way in 2025.
How?
Well in today’s episode of the How I Do Content Podcast I’m going to break down exactly what you need to do to make sure your marketing strategy not only works but doesn’t burn you out.
Let’s dive in.

The Harsh Truth: You’re Not Actually Marketing
I’m going to hold your hand when I say this…
The reason your marketing feels hard and isn’t working?
You’re not actually marketing.
Hear me out.
Most six-figure business owners have no problem doing marketing. You post on Instagram, create Reels, send emails – but even though you’re consistent, it still feels like you’re not seeing results.
Why?
Because you don’t actually have a marketing strategy. You’re stuck in tactical and reactive marketing instead of thinking strategically and big picture.
Let’s break it down.
You’re Focused on Tactics, Not Strategy
The reason your marketing isn’t working isn’t because:
- You’re not posting enough.
- You need to be on a new platform.
- You haven’t found the “right” content format yet.
The real reason is because you’re approaching marketing backward.
Tactics are the last thing you should focus on – not the first.
Think of it like this: If you decide to post a Reel today, but you don’t know who you’re speaking to, what action you want them to take or how this fits into a bigger plan – you’re just wasting your time.
So what happens is you just keep adding more—more posts, more platforms, more effort – when more isn’t the answer.
Instead of thinking, “What should I post today?”, start asking, “What’s my overall marketing goal, and how does this content fit into it?”
You’re Being Reactive, Not Proactive
Your marketing is decided based on what feels urgent:
“Engagement is down; I need to post more!”
“Everyone’s doing LinkedIn – I should start posting there too.”
“That person’s launching something – I need to launch something!”
This means you’re making decisions based on external pressure instead of your own strategy.
But here’s the thing – leaders don’t respond, they lead.
If your marketing is 100% based on what’s trending on social media, your business is at the mercy of an algorithm you don’t control. That’s why one week, engagement is high, and you feel great – then the next week, it drops, and you panic. It’s an exhausting cycle.
Instead of reacting to what’s happening right now, start leading with a long-term strategy that builds authority and demand over time. When it comes to your marketing nothing (and I repeat) NOTHING is urgent. It’s marketing not surgery.
You Don’t Have a Clear Customer Journey
While yes, you’re putting effort and time into your marketing, it doesn’t go anywhere because you don’t have a system to turn attention into sales.
You create content, but:
- You’re not sure what happens after someone finds you.
- You don’t have a way to nurture those potential buyers.
- You’re only focusing on visibility, not conversion.
So say someone sees your content today and loves it – what happens next?
- Do they binge more content that builds trust?
- Do they know what you offer and how to work with you?
- Are they nurtured in a way that makes it easy to buy when they’re ready?
Without a clear customer journey, you’re constantly chasing new people instead of strategically guiding them toward a sale.
Instead of just getting seen, you need to build a marketing funnel that takes people from awareness to conversion in a way that doesn’t require you to do everything manually.
So if you’re thinking, “shit that’s me Tahryn, how do I fix it?” – I have a few solutions for you.
Solution 1: Define Your Big Picture Marketing Strategy
Before creating another post, get clear on what you’re trying to achieve.
- What’s your core business goal right now? (More high-ticket clients? Selling out your group program?)
- Who are you speaking to, and where are they in their customer journey?
- What’s your core message that differentiates you?
Most business owners post just to stay active. But if you don’t have a clear purpose, you’ll keep feeling like you’re throwing shit at the wall.
My recommendation: Write down your top business priority for the next 90 days. Every marketing decision should align with that goal.
Solution 2: Create a Demand-Driven Content Funnel
Stop relying only on social media.
Instead of chasing engagement (which is great for your ego but your bank account) – you need to create a content funnel that moves your dream clients toward a sale.
Your marketing should cover three layers:
Visibility Content (Getting Attention):
Social media posts, Reels, guest features, collaborations, SEO content.
The purpose: Bring new people into your world.
Nurture Content (Building Trust):
Emails, long-form content, behind-the-scenes, case studies, and education.
The purpose: Deepen the relationship so people see YOU as the go-to.
Conversion Content (Leading to a Sale):
Offer breakdowns, client results, storytelling that creates emotional connection.
The purpose: Help people make a decision to buy.
Most business owners only focus on visibility. That’s why you feel stuck in the cycle of “I’m showing up, but nothing is happening.”
My recommendation: Review your content right now. Are you only focusing on visibility, or do you have nurture and conversion content too?
Solution 3: Shift From Random Posting to an Intentional Marketing System
Marketing should work for you, even when you take a break.
This means:
- Batching & repurposing instead of creating from scratch
- Automating (emails, lead nurture sequences, etc.)
- A clear customer journey so leads don’t get stuck
My recommendation: Ask yourself, “If I stopped posting for a week, would my business still attract leads?” If not, it’s time to build a system that does.
