The exact things you need to focus on in your top-of-funnel marketing strategy to attract Beyonce-level clients and nurture them right through your funnel until they become paying ones.
…Because if you’re not clear on your top-of-funnel strategy, it’ll make it super challenging to attract, nurture, and convert the leads in your funnel.
So let’s get into it!
How top-of-funnel marketing helps you make sales
Top-of-funnel marketing is the first interaction many potential customers will have with your brand – so it’s your opportunity to make a memorable impression.
It sets the stage for future sales by creating visibility, building trust, and nurturing relationships early.
And without it – your funnel won’t have enough people in it to make consistent sales. You won’t have enough leads to nurture through the middle and bottom stages of your funnel, which obviously means fewer sales.
Ultimately, if you want to make more sales at the bottom of your funnel, you need to strengthen your top-of-funnel messaging so you can attract enough quality leads who convert into dream clients.
TBetter Lead Quality = Higher Conversion Rates
The way to attract better leads is better messaging.
If you want to make more sales, you need to attract the right people into the top of your funnel.
While more leads at the top of your funnel can ultimately lead to more sales – you also need to be mindful of the quality of people you’re attracting into your funnel. Because you don’t want to attract any muggle into your funnel. You want to attract leads as hot as Harry Styles AND who fit the profile of your dream clients.
The more qualified prospects you pull into your sales pipeline – the higher the likelihood of conversions down the line.
You do this through your messaging.
When your leads resonate with your messaging from the get-go, it makes them easier to sell to. They’re already sold on you and what you have to offer, so getting them to buy from you is easier and happens faster.
This is why you need to know your ideal client like they’re your bestie. To understand what their current reality looks like and what they desire instead so you can create content that speaks directly to them and gets them to move.
You want to make it so fucking clear from the get-go who your dream client is and what’s in it for them when they come into your world.
If you’re not attracting dream clients into your world consistently – you need to look at your messaging and how you’re currently communicating with your community at the top of your funnel.
Because if your dream clients can’t see a reason for them to enter into your world – they won’t. And it’s up to you to fix it.
Create a clear profile of your dream client that’s relevant to RIGHT NOW, and then look at your top-of-funnel messaging and marketing and get honest with yourself…

- Does this speak to my dream client as they are today and what they want in the future?
- Does what I’m sharing and how I’m sharing it make it an easy decision for my dream clients to take that first step into my customer journey?
- If not – where are the gaps and what do I need to change?
You might soon realise you’ve got the lid on your funnel and that you’re fully repelling dream clients because of your top-of-funnel messaging and marketing.
Trust is EVERYTHING when it comes to making more sales
Your dream clients have options, so you need to make it clear straight up why you are the person, the brand, and the business they should trust over anyone else.
If you get into the habit of weaving this into your messaging at the top of your funnel – you’ll make more sales.
But what I see most often is that people shy away from the things that help build trust – such as sharing your unique blend of magic, highlighting why you’re a Dumbledore-level expert, and speaking to what makes you different from every other Harry, Ron and Hermione doing the same thing as you.
The biggest thing missing in the online space right now is differentiation. Everyone sounds like a clone of their coach, or like they’ve copied and pasted straight out of ChatGPT.
For the love of dogs, don’t skip trust-building messaging!
People are spoilt for choice – they buy from people, brands, and businesses they trust.
As your dream clients get to know you, your brand, your business, and your offers, and they feel a connection (whether that’s through storytelling, demonstrating your unique process or positioning yourself as someone trust-worthy) – they’re more likely to move to the next stage of your funnel.
Trust-building messaging also helps shorten the buying decision process later on because they’re already sold on you.
In an always-evolving online space, and with shifting consumer desires and expectations (not to mention the current state of the economy) – you simply can’t afford to not focus on trust-building messaging. No matter how uncomfortable or self-indulgent it might feel to you.
Show you’re a problem solver.
Specifically, show that you solve a problem your ideal client has AND (most importantly) wants to solve.
I’ve been watching a bit of Dragon’s Den recently. Something they talk about ALL the time when people come into the Den is the size of the problem the business solves for its customers.
Because you could have the most amazing offer… but if it doesn’t solve the right problem that’s ALSO a top priority for your ideal clients to solve – you’ll struggle to make sales.
Plus, in the current economic climate, it’s more important than ever before.
Your top-of-funnel messaging needs to educate potential clients on their problems, showing them a solution exists AND that it’s a problem worth solving RIGHT NOW.
But so often I see businesses try to sell to people who have no idea

- They have a problem
- Your business exists
- You solve said problem
- The true cost of their indecision
This is why when certain “gurus” proclaim that educational content is dead, I roll my eyes.
Many people don’t buy because they aren’t even aware of the full scope of their problem or the possible solutions.
BUT by taking the time to educate your audience at the top of the funnel, you increase the chances of converting them into paying clients or customers later.
And, when they’re ready to solve their problem – guess who they’ll think of? Yep, you!
Nurture your leads through consistent messaging and marketing
There’s absolutely no point in improving your top-of-funnel messaging and marketing to attract more dream clients into your funnel if you’re just going to ignore them and let them sit in the funnel and never move.
You’re just clogging your funnel with leads and never nurturing them to the point they become paying clients.
This is one of the biggest mistakes I see business owners make on repeat. They’re obsessed with their top-of-funnel marketing, but then when they have all these leads – they pretty much ignore them.
If you want more sales – you have to nurture your leads to the conversion point.
Yes, simply attracting them into the top of the funnel isn’t enough. YOU (not me, not Hermione, you) need to guide them through your funnel with consistent messaging and marketing.
If you’re someone who changes your messaging more often than you change your underwear – STOP IT.
If you’re someone who only shows up when you’ve got something to sell and then you ghost your community – STOP IT.
YOU are the reason you’re not making more sales.
Consistent messaging and marketing help your leads understand your offer and why you are the wizard to help them.
And engaging with them early and consistently means when they’re ready to buy – they’re already familiar with you and trust you.
