Online Content Predictions for 2022

Welcome back to a new year and a new season of the How I Do Content Podcast.

I’ve missed you!

And to kick off the first episode of the year I’m looking into my crystal ball and sharing my online content predictions for 2022.

I’m spilling the tea on what you can expect and prepare yourself for in the content space this year.

So let’s do this.

online content predictions 2022

Online Content Prediction 1 – The continued rise of the podcast

Have you noticed a lot of people launching podcasts?

Well this is going to continue to increase in 2022.

Especially in Australia – we haven’t even hit peak podcast levels yet. So expect to see a heap of new podcasts launched this year. I know many clients who are planning to do the same.

And why wouldn’t they?

A podcast is a marketing channel that you OWN. It’s not rented space like social media. And you don’t have to fight with the algorithm gods to get your content into the ears of your community.

People can listen to your podcast while on a walk with their dog, driving in their car or folding the washing – places that social media can’t reach.

And you can also binge listen to a whole heap of episodes in one go – true Netflix style.

The beauty of a podcast is the shelf life of the content. It doesn’t disappear into the black hole that is social media 5 minutes after hitting publish. I have episodes from over 8 months ago that are still being listened to.

So if “start a podcast” is on your 2022 vision board – I highly recommend doing it! It was the best decision I made and it 100% sparks joy for me.

And if you’re not sure about starting your OWN podcast – that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of the podcast boom.

Pitch to be a guest on one of your favourite podcasts and share your knowledge with their community. But for the love of dogs don’t cold pitch to podcasts you’ve never listened to. Do your research and take the time to share why you love their podcast and why you think you’d be a wonderful guest.

Online Content Prediction 2 – Video Video Video

I KNOW! I KNOW!

The audacity of me to tell you that video is an essential piece of your content creation process.

I hate to break it to you…but if you keep resisting video you’ll struggle to grow your business.

Video isn’t going anywhere, so the sooner you get comfortable being uncomfortable – the easier it’s going to become.

No one is expecting Oscar worthy directing or acting. But people do want to connect with YOU – and video is one of the fastest ways to build connection with your community.

Remember that simple is always best.

My advice for getting started is:

  • Prepare – jot down a plan that outlines – the goal of the video, what you’re going to talk about and a call to action. Make it as easy as possible for you to succeed
  • Done is better than perfect – again you’re not submitting your video for Oscars’ consideration so don’t re-film a zillion times until it’s perfect or put unnecessary pressure on yourself to be a pro after one video.
  • Remember WHY you’re creating these videos – it’s not about you → it’s about your ideal clients and customers
  • Don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through. Share what makes you magic because again this is all about connection and magnetising your kinda people into your business.
  • And if all else fails, get a dog. Dogs have a calming presence and are super cute. It’s a no brainer really!

And while you’re hating me for forcing you to use video in your content…

You might hate me even more when I tell you that Reels aren’t going anywhere either.

Instagram has made it super clear that they’re prioritising Reels and the Insights prove that.

Sometimes you gotta play Instagram’s game to get your content in front of your soulmate clients or accept that the trade off for not doing video and reels is decreased reach and eyeballs on your content.

But again the same advice applies here.

  • Take your time.
  • Make it easy for yourself.
  • And never ever ever create a Reel just because every Harry, Ron & Hermione on the internet is jumping on a trend.

Create content that is unique to you and your business. This ESPECIALLY applies to Reels.

You want your content to stand out and be authentically you – not blend into the same sameness that’s out there.

And if 2022 is the year you want to tackle videos and Reels – you want to make sure you’re on the waitlist for the next round of the School of Content Wizardry. Not only do I cover this in the course modules – you’ll also save $500 off the full price of the program if you’re on the waitlist.

So sign up HERE.

Ok, the next content prediction isn’t particularly groundbreaking – but nonetheless VERY important.

Online Content Prediction 3 – Client and Customer Centred Content

With the sheer amount of content out there (which is always increasing) your content needs to stand out to the right people.

Posts about “Monday morning coffee time” or “Friday afternoon wines” are simply not going to cut it. It’s filler content and basically a waste of your time.

This is a self-serving approach to content creation and does nothing for you or your business.

And the result will be that your community just keeps on scrolling.

Remember quality over quantity. Focusing solely on the number of times you post, is a mistake.

You want to spend your time creating magical content that elevates brand awareness, connects with your community and builds trust.

The consumer of your content should ALWAYS be the centre of attention.

  • Be helpful
  • Teach them something
  • Make them feel valued and important

Because as the competition for hearts, minds and eyeballs intensifies, you need to be able to cut through the noise.

To write with empathy, communicate with authenticity and build a community of like minded legends.

It’s more than just whacking up a post or hitting send on an email.

But in return you’ll be rewarded with the absolute best kinda people in your orbit. People who become clients and friends, who refer you onto other people and who make biz life that much sweeter.

And get creative! Don’t be afraid to try new things. Because again you don’t want your content to blend into the beige. You’ll never stand out if you try and be like everyone else ok?

Online Content Prediction 4 – Diversity and Inclusion in your content

I want to start by saying that this is not a trend that you should jump on simply to tick a box. This is a way of life, of doing business. It needs to become the new normal.

And if you don’t create content that is representative and accessible – your customers and your clients will go elsewhere.

People want to invest their dollars in brands and businesses they trust, believe in, and that align with their core values.

And the first step is educating yourself on what representation looks like and how you can incorporate this into your business and your content.

Not knowing where to start is not a valid reason in 2022. So I highly recommend listening to episode 30: Why Representation Matters with Annie Gichuru.

And go and follow Annie on Instagram because she shares so much epic content around diversity, equity and inclusion.

So there you have it, some of my predictions for the online content space in 2022.

Content creation is such an important part of building a successful and profitable business. You’ll never not need to create content in your business (unless you don’t want clients and customers) so it’s good to keep on top of what’s happening in the world of content.

Now if 2022 is the year you want to transform your content creation process – I’m opening the doors for my signature program The School of Content Wizardry in a couple of weeks.

The School of Content Wizardry is my transformative 12 week group experience to guide you to share your authentic voice, create your own magic content and get max impact out of every creation.

It’s your powerful and game-changing Marauder’s Map to reveal and spark your inner Content Wizard.

I’m currently in the process of giving her a little facelift to make her even more magical than before. So if you want to be in on the magic that is the School of Content Wizardry – jump on that waitlist to lock in the special wizards’ price when doors open.

And that’s it for the first episode of season 2 of the How I Do Content Podcast. I’m thrilled to be back in your ears and I can’t wait to share even more content, launch and business spells throughout the year.
