Your Q4 Marketing Plan: What Your Marketing Needs to Do Between Now and Christmas

Your Q4 Marketing Plan: What Your Marketing Needs to Do Between Now and Christmas

It’s officially Q4, which means we’ve somehow reached the part of the year where a lot of business owners suddenly realise there are only three months left to hit the goals they set approximately 84 years ago in January.

And because Q4 is traditionally a big selling period, this is usually the point where the pressure starts to ramp up.

There are launches, promotions, Black Friday, Christmas campaigns and a whole lot of noise about how to get more reach, more eyeballs and more sales before the year ends.

And yes, your marketing absolutely should help you make the most of the buying opportunities happening right now.

But I think there’s a second job your marketing needs to do between now and Christmas, and this is the one a lot of business owners overlook.

It also needs to help you build a stronger customer journey going into 2027. Because I KNOW you don’t want another year where you’re STILL relying on constant content creation to keep your marketing moving.

So that’s exactly what I want to unpack in today’s episode of the How I Do Content Podcast. How to build a Q4 marketing plan that makes the most of buying behaviour now AND uses the next three months to build something stronger underneath it.

Let’s get into it.

Q4 marketing plan

Job #1: Help people make a buying decision now

The first job of your Q4 marketing plan is probably the one you’re already thinking about, which is how to make the most of the fact that people are actively making buying decisions right now.

And I think the key here is remembering that Q4 being a busy buying period doesn’t automatically mean people are going to buy from you.

There are more offers, more promotions and more things competing for their attention, which means your messaging needs to do a really good job of helping someone understand why your offer matters to them right now.

I’d be looking at things like whether you’re talking about the problems your ideal client wants solved before the end of the year, whether you’re making the outcome clear enough, whether you’re showing them why your approach is different and whether you’re giving them a strong enough reason to prioritise this now instead of pushing it into 2027.

Because when sales feel slower than you want them to, the instinct is often to assume you need more reach.

  • More people need to see the offer.
  • More people need to find you.
  • More people need to come into your world.

And sometimes that is the issue.

But sometimes plenty of people are already seeing you and the real gap is that they’re not moving any further.

They might like your content, agree with what you’re saying and even be thinking about working with you, but your messaging hasn’t quite helped them get to the point where the decision feels obvious.

That’s what I’d be focusing on first in Q4.

Not just “how do I get more people to see this?”, but “how do I help the people who are already here understand why this matters enough to act on now?”

And this is where the second job becomes really important, because once you’ve got that attention, you need somewhere useful for it to go.

Job #2: Build a stronger customer journey underneath your marketing

This is the one I think a lot of business owners overlook, because when your Q4 marketing plan is focused on getting more attention and making more sales before the end of the year, it’s very easy to keep putting all of your energy into the front end.

You create more content, push harder on visibility, run another promotion and keep trying to bring more people into your world, without really looking at what happens once they’re there.

And this is where I think a lot of businesses make marketing much harder than it needs to be.

Because getting someone’s attention is only the beginning.

You also need a clear pathway that helps them go from discovering you, to understanding what you do, to seeing why your offer matters to them, and eventually feeling ready to buy.

So this is the part of your marketing I’d be looking at before the year ends.

If someone finds you on Instagram today, is there a clear pathway that takes them beyond simply following you and hoping they happen to see enough of your content to eventually buy?

You want to know what you’re directing them towards next, how you’re continuing the conversation once they get there and whether the journey eventually leads naturally into the offer you actually want to sell.

Because if there are gaps in that journey, bringing more people in at the top is only going to get you so far.

You can keep growing your audience and increasing your reach, but if people are getting stuck somewhere between finding you and buying from you, that’s the gap I’d be fixing.

And I don’t think you need to spend the next three months building some giant complicated funnel either. If:

I’d look at the customer journey you already have and work out where people are losing momentum.

  • Plenty of people are finding you but very few are joining your list, I’d look at the lead magnet and how you’re positioning it.
  • They’re joining your list but barely hearing from you afterwards, I’d strengthen the nurture.
  • They’re consuming your content and opening your emails but still not moving towards the offer, I’d be looking much more closely at the sales messaging and the way you’re helping them make that decision.

That’s where I think some of the biggest opportunities are going into 2027, because you stop putting all of the pressure on constantly finding new people and start doing a better job of moving the people who are already paying attention.

And a really useful way to test how strong that customer journey currently is would be to ask yourself what happens if you take two weeks off over Christmas.

Does your marketing keep doing anything without you constantly creating new content, or does everything basically stop?

Because if the whole customer journey stops the second you stop posting on Instagram, that’s probably the thing I’d want to strengthen before another year begins.

Instagram can still be a really important part of your marketing. It just doesn’t need to be responsible for carrying the whole bloody thing.

What I’d actually focus on between now and Christmas

So as you head into the final three months of the year, that’s what I want you to keep in mind.

Your Q4 marketing plan needs to help you make the most of the buying opportunities happening right now. But I also want you to use some of this quarter to strengthen the customer journey sitting underneath all of that attention.

Because yes, I want you making sales between now and Christmas, but I also want you going into 2027 with stronger messaging, a better pathway into your offers and a customer journey that doesn’t fall apart the second you stop posting on Instagram for five minutes.

If you can do both over the next three months, you’re setting yourself up for a stronger end to this year while also making next year easier.

Your Q4 Marketing Plan Next Steps

So if you’re thinking, “Ok, I can see that I probably don’t need to spend the next three months just creating more content and hoping that fixes everything,” I’ve got a free masterclass that will help you work out what actually needs your attention.

It’s called How to Bring in More Leads to Your Online Service Business in 2026, and inside I’ll help you identify where the right people are dropping out of your marketing and what I’d prioritise fixing first so more of them actually move towards the sale.

Because sometimes the answer is more visibility, but sometimes the bigger opportunity is strengthening the messaging and customer journey you already have so more of the right people actually move towards the sale.

And if you already know you want my hands-on support actually fixing those gaps across your messaging, offers, funnels, emails, sales pages and content, that’s exactly what we do inside Micro Messaging.
