5 ways to make 2023 easier (and generate more cash)

Girl, we need to have an honest conversation about your marketing

Girl, we need to have an honest conversation about your marketing

I’ve just wrapped up another launch period for Micro Messaging, which means I’ve spent the last couple of weeks in deep conversation with my community and my ideal client.

Obviously the number 1 goal of a launch is to make sales, but it’s also a great opportunity to speak with your peeps and see where they’re at, what they want and where they need your help.

And girl, we need to have an honest conversation about your marketing.

Because I’m seeing a BIG gap between what you say you want and what you’re currently doing to get there.

So in today’s episode of the How I Do Content Podcast I’m ready to have that honest conversation with you because I want you to win.

I want to see you attract Beyonce-level clients and to be known as the Dumbledore-level wizard in your industry – but right now your messaging + marketing isn’t matching your magic.

So if you’ve been feeling like you’re doing all the things and it’s still not working, this is where we need to get honest about why your marketing isn’t working.

Let’s do this.

why your marketing isn’t working<br />

AI is killing your messaging

Yep, starting off with all guns blazing because this is one of the biggest reasons why your marketing isn’t working right now.

Sure it’s made it easier than ever to create content, and sure, that sounds like a good thing – content going out consistently, it’s taking you less time, what could be the problem Tahryn?

Well, the problem is we’re now drowning in an avalanche of AI-generated messaging and content that:

  • Addresses surface-level problems that your actual ideal clients don’t even care about.
  • Speaks to absolutely everyone – even the people who aren’t right for your offer.
  • And the worst part is there’s zero differentiation between you and the next person.

It all sounds like the same person wrote it, because in a way, it kinda did.

When you outsource your messaging to AI, you’re not just blending in. You’re actively destroying what makes your business worth choosing.

Your ideal client can tell it’s AI and it’s repelling them.

Now I’m not telling you to stop using AI – because that ship has well and truly sailed. And there are absolutely ways to use it that support your business without it taking over your voice.

BUT you need to think about how you’re using it.

Your ideal client isn’t buying from the person who pumps out the most content in the shortest amount of time…

They’re buying from the person who makes them feel genuinely seen. The one whose content stops them mid-scroll because it sounds like it was written specifically for them. The one with a real point of view, a real voice, and something only they could say.

Because AI can produce content. It can’t produce your content or replicate your lived experience, your specific client results, or the way you uniquely see and solve this problem.

Your voice is your differentiator and your perspective is your competitive advantage – so fucking use it.

You Need to Move Beyond Social Media

How I’m still having this conversation in 2026 is mind-blowing but it’s another major reason why your marketing isn’t working.

Because somewhere along the way, social media stopped being a tool and became your entire strategy.

And that’s a problem because you don’t own your audience or control your reach.

Plus, you’re one algorithm change away from your visibility dropping overnight.

Meanwhile, people are choosing to spend less time online and on social media specifically.

So that means the clients you actually want to attract, they’re not spending their days doom-scrolling Instagram. They are listening to podcasts on their morning walk, reading emails from people they trust, googling their problems and finding long-form content that actually answers them.

If social media is your only marketing channel, you are invisible to a huge chunk of your ideal audience because you’re choosing NOT to show up where they are.

And that gap is a big part of why your marketing isn’t working.

Because it’s not just about how often you show up – it’s about where.

The businesses with real longevity, the ones still standing and still growing five and ten years in, have multiple touchpoints. An email list they actually nurture. A content strategy that compounds over time instead of disappearing after 24 hours. Ways for people to find them that don’t depend on an algorithm deciding it’s your lucky day.

Social media gets to be part of the strategy. It doesn’t get to be the whole thing.

You Know What Needs to Change. And You Need to Move.

And this is where it gets a little uncomfortable.

Because sometimes the reason why your marketing isn’t working… is you.

Not your strategy, your offer or the algorithm.

You.

There are two ways this usually shows up.

You’re overthinking everything

Overthinking is the most expensive thing in your business right now.

The time you spend going back and forth, tweaking the same caption, redoing the same sales page, waiting until the offer feels perfect – that is costing you more than anything else.

And here’s the thing – it feels like you’re working. It feels like you’re being diligent and thorough. But what you’re actually doing is protecting yourself from the possibility of it not working.

The people who are winning right now are not the ones with the best strategy on paper. They are the ones who execute imperfectly and then adjust. They put it out. They see what lands. They refine and they go again.

And that’s why their marketing works.

One of my clients inside Micro Messaging is the perfect example of this. She came into Micro Messaging and from day one she was like, tell me what to do and I will do it. She didn’t overthink it. She didn’t wait until she felt confident. She just moved. And within 8 weeks she had ten times her conversion rate. Not because the strategy was complicated. Because she executed it.

Speed of implementation is a skill and it is one of the most underrated skills in business. The good news is, it’s one you can develop but you gotta move NOW.

You’re avoiding the thing that would change everything

If you’re not overthinking, then you’re probably the person who knows exactly what needs to happen but you keep putting it off anyway.

You already know your messaging isn’t landing the way it should. You’ve known for a while. It sits on the edge of your awareness – this thing that you know needs attention. You already know you need to build beyond social media. It’s on the list. It’s been on the list.

You know things need to change. The problem is it keeps getting bumped for everything else.

There’s always something more urgent. A client deliverable. A life thing. Something that feels more pressing than sitting down and fixing the thing that would actually change your results.

But here’s what I want you to really sit with: the thing you keep avoiding is the reason why your marketing isn’t working.

If your messaging was right, you wouldn’t have to post as much to get results. If your funnels were working, leads would be coming in even on the weeks you don’t have the energy to show up. Every week you delay is another week of content that isn’t converting. Another ideal client who found you, was interested, and scrolled past because your messaging didn’t speak to them clearly enough.

Busy isn’t the reason you haven’t done it yet – it’s just the easiest excuse in the book.

The question is whether growing your business is actually a priority right now or is it just something you talk about wanting while you keep choosing everything else over it?

At some point “I’ve been busy” stops being a reason and starts being a choice. The business you want is on the other side of the thing you keep bumping.

So when you’re questioning why your marketing isn’t working, it’s not that you don’t know what to do.

It’s that you’re not doing it.

So now what?

The question is what you’re going to do about it.

I want you to remember that you are talented, you are brilliant and the world needs more of your magic – but none of that matters if the people who need you most can’t see themselves in your messaging or worse, can’t find you at all.

If this episode resonated, share it with a business owner who needs to hear it. And don’t forget to hit subscribe so you don’t miss what’s coming next week.
