Behind the Scenes: A Week in the Life of a Biz Wizard

How does a Biz Wizard spend their week?

Well, you’re about to find out because, in this episode of the How I Do Content Podcast, I’m giving you a behind-the-scenes look into my week as a Biz Wizard.

How do I spend my time each day?
How many hours do I work?
What projects am I working on right now?

I’m going to reveal all!

Fair warning though (and I do tell people this a lot) – but I’m pretty boring and very much a creature of habit. However, I also know people are curious and love getting a little bit of inside info about what other people are doing in their business.

You can thank my magical client Anna who suggested this topic for today’s episode.

So let’s dive in!

First, a bit of context…

This week was very much not an average week for me – as in, it looked quite different to my usual kind of week.

Not going to lie, I even contemplated not recording this particular episode this week, but then it removes the authenticity and also the reality of running a business.

No single week ever looks exactly the same, and there are seasons in business where your priorities and workload can look very different.

And here’s the thing…

I’m not in a launch, so how I’m showing up and the amount of content I’m sharing on a weekly basis is lower than in a launch. Notice how I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth until my next launch, but I have lowered my output. It means if I don’t feel like sharing something – I don’t. And I also don’t obsess over it or make myself feel guilty.

You have to find a happy medium between showing up and selling every single day, and completely ghosting your community.

Because when I tell you, the compounding effect of me showing up consistently over the last 5 years is real. I never dip in sales from month to month, even if I have a few quieter weeks.

Your content is the thing that WILL carry you through these times when you aren’t actively showing up as much.

I’ve also changed my client load a bit to give myself more space in my calendar for me personally. As you may or may not know, I’ve been navigating some mental health challenges in the last 18 months, and I needed to make some changes so I didn’t always have a full schedule of client calls, on top of creating content for clients, on top of running my business. Sometimes it felt like everything in my business was completely tied to me and my ability to show up and deliver at a really high standard – it felt like it could all come tumbling down at any point.

So I had to get off the “more is more is more” hamster wheel social media feeds us, and get real with myself.

This looked like changing some of my offers, not actively selling others or taking on new clients, increasing my prices, and looking at ways to increase my monthly recurring revenue without me working more. And it’s an ongoing process, I might add.

Of course, I acknowledge being fully booked is a great problem to have – but not at the expense of my mental health. So my weeks do look vastly different right now to what they did at the start of the year.

It’s been fucking hard – but completely necessary.

It’s really important to create a business that supports you, the human.

This means sometimes you have to do things differently to all the other Harry, Ron and Hermiones in the online space because it works for YOU.

This is why I’m such a big advocate for there’s no one right way to do business – the best way is what works for YOU!

Behind the Scenes: A Week in the Life of a Biz Wizard

My week as a Biz Wizard

Monday

Monday is usually a no-client call day (as is Friday), however, with my change in capacity and schedule, it’s been a bit more flexible.

I usually spend Monday organising and preparing for the week ahead – looking at what client work I have to create, and scheduling that out throughout the week.

I also roughly plan out the content I want to share on the ‘Gram during the week BUT most of it is created in the moment because, well, I’m a content wizard too! This isn’t something I recommend for everyone, simply because you might not find creating content easy like I do or you might not have the capacity to do it in the moment. Again – finding a way that works for you is BEST, but remember content creation is essential and always a priority!

So on this Monday I also had 2 client calls:

  1. With an ongoing marketing retainer client who I’ve joined as part of their team. I recently supported them with creating all the messaging + marketing for their launch, and now they’ve asked me to support them with their ongoing messaging + marketing
  2. The second call was with a Biz Wizard Intensive client, and together we mapped out content for her upcoming freebie. I’ve also been supporting her by creating some lead magnet funnels for her membership

The rest of the Monday was spent creating client content and sharing a post about International Dog Day (and why I started the Social Bolt).

Tuesday

Tuesday is usually a client call day, and this Tuesday I had a 1:1 Coaching Call with a client inside The Message Mind. We talked through her messaging, marketing and sales strategy for the next couple of months, and how she plans to build momentum from a promotion she did last month.

After this call, I went to my regular nail appointment. I know a lot of people think getting their nails done is a waste of money, but this is something I’m willing to spend money on. It makes me feel like I have my life together (at least on the outside) and I love the girls at Peachi Nails here in Perth. It also ticks the box of leaving my house + speaking to other people – so win-win! I also love that I can book a nail appointment during the week whenever I feel like it and without getting permission.

The rest of the Tuesday was again spent creating client content – this time for an awards submission. I also reviewed some client copy including sales pages, blogs and a services brochure. And then I shared the latest podcast episode on stories, and repurposed a previous podcast episode into a weekly carousel post

Wednesday

Initially, I was scheduled to have my next photoshoot with the amazing Zoe from Alchemy Brand Studio – but the studio I wanted to shoot at wasn’t available, so we’ve rescheduled for a few weeks’ time.

This meant I had a whole day free in the calendar, so I decided to take this day for me.

I got to:

  • Not set an alarm and sleep in
  • Hang out with Ned + Maggie
  • Visit my favourite bakery, Chu Bakery, and get some goodies to sit in the park and enjoy them
  • Read a book and take a nap
  • Book in for an early dinner at a restaurant on my “to try” list
  • Finish up by going to watch the Manchester City vs Leicester women’s football match

I do a lot of my outings on my own and I always have. Far too often people don’t do things they really want to because they’re afraid of doing it alone. But if I waited for other people to do these things, I’d never have travelled as much as I have or built the confidence in myself to follow my desires and go after what I really want. A lot of people hide behind other people as an excuse not to live their own fucking life. If I want to go visit a different city, or watch a movie, or try a new restaurant, I’m doing it – with or without someone else.

So this Wednesday was for me. In the past, I probably would’ve filled my free day with client work (and did have client work I could do)… but, as I said earlier, I’m trying this thing where I’m leaving space for me and not filling it just because I could.

I did however share an Instagram post – a meme featuring Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega from the Taste music video clip – but that was it.

Thursday

On Thursday I found myself with another call-free day due to a client rescheduling our call due to sickness. I personally love cancelled plans, whether that is in business or personally – I never understand how people get mad about it (but also #introvertlife).

So I basically decided to have another slow and spacious day. My weeks definitely don’t always look like this, however, I made another conscious decision to keep the space for me because I have been struggling with my mental health more so in the last month. That’s the nature of mental health: you can be doing great, and then you have times when it does feel like you’re going backwards. This has been my reality the last month, so I do what I need to do, and then the rest of the time is for me.

One of my long-time clients is currently in a launch, so I prioritised getting her launch emails and weekly podcast content done. I also finalised some content plans and prompts for other clients.

The rest of the day? I read my book and took a nap.

Friday

Friday is usually a no-call day when I work on my business projects.

But before I could do that, I had my fortnightly therapy appointment. This is something I’ve been doing for myself and my mental health for the last 4 months. I’m beyond grateful to be able to access and afford therapy because I know that’s not always the case for many people. I’ve done therapy on several occasions throughout my life and it’s helped me navigate some pretty challenging times.

The rest of my Friday was spent working on my Micro Messaging Launch Review. I’m turning this into an audio series where I take you behind the scenes of the first launch of the program and give you an insight into the micro-messaging across the different stages of the launch, the launch results, and the reasoning behind my strategies. I’m really excited to share this with you very soon.

So that’s how I spent my week as a Biz Wizard!

A few other things to note…

My clients have access to me in Slack from Monday to Friday throughout the week, so I’m in there daily responding to questions, sharing my thoughts on their strategy, and fleshing out content ideas – things to keep them moving in between our sessions. Some weeks Slack is popping off, and other weeks they’re getting shit done. You never know what to expect!

I also want you to know that I DO work on the weekends.

I don’t work every weekend or follow a set schedule – it’s more dependent on what I need (or want) to get done, how my week has played out, and my plans for the weekend.

So if I have a heavy call week, I often catch up on client work on the weekend.

If I have a week where looking after my mental health has been the priority (like it was this week), then I catch up on things over the weekend.

And Saturday is usually the day I script, record, and create content for my podcast – which is exactly what I’m doing right now!

I honestly prefer to work on the weekends and do stuff like get my nails done during the week because #introvertlife – I stay home when everyone is out, and go out when everyone is at work or home.

Plus, it allows me to space things out and not have huge pressure on me getting shit done if I’m not feeling it. Again it highlights why creating a business that works FOR you is so important. Obviously, I acknowledge that I don’t have children so my schedule is my own and I get to decide how I spend it.

So that’s my week as a Biz Wizard – hopefully, you enjoyed this insight.

Did anything surprise you or was it just as you expected?

I told you I’m pretty boring and very much a creature of habit!
